Deceased Name: WILLIAM JAMES SIMON

William James Simon, 78, of Superior, Wis., passed away at home on Tues., March 17, 2009.

 

He was born May 13, 1930 in Superior to Marcella and Elmer Simon.

 

He was a graduate of Superior Central High School with the class of 1948 and a 1952 graduate from the College of St. Thomas. In November of 1953 he was united in marriage to Ruth M. Ogren.

 

Upon his return from military service with the United States Air Force, Bill joined the Cutler-Magner Company, where he worked for 42 years.

 

He was a member of the Superior Rotary Club, Superior Elk's Lodge No. 403, Knights of Columbus, Duluth-Superior Radio Control Club, Minnesota Air National Guard, Nemadji Men's Club, and the Superior Curling Club with which, in 1995, Bill and his teammates won the National Senior Curling Championship. He also enjoyed cross-country skiing and long walks.

 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Surviving are his wife, Ruth; sons, Mike (Ellen) of Ashland, Wis., Tom (Anne) of Wellesley, Mass., and Jim (Kathleen) of St. Paul.; a daughter, Kathy (Todd) Widdes of Rice Lake, Wis.; and eight exceptional grandchildren.

 

VISITATION: 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 until the 11 a.m. memorial servicie in Downs Funeral Home, corner of Ogden Ave. & 19th Street, with Fr. James Tobolski, pastor of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church officiating. Private inurnment will be held at the Northern Wisconsin Veteran's Memorial Cemetery. If desired, memorials in Bill's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
